Name: Nikkole “Nikki” Rudderwake

: Benji Rudderwake
(derivative of Benjamin from Hebrew name בִּנְיָמִין (Binyamin) which means "son of the south" or "son of the right hand".)
Age: 23 years : A little bit older than 1 year old (18 months approximately) [The equivalency of a waddling/running, often incomprehensible babbling dibbun]
Gender: Female : Male
Species: River Otter : Sea-River Otter mix
Marital Status: Widowed, or so she thinks... : None
Position and Home: Daughter of the Skipper at Holt Seaslate (so practically Second in Command ;) ) : Dibbun at Holt Seaslate
Strengths:
Nikki
Instigator
-Although a term with an often negative connotation, it is a strength for Nikki. Nikki is a great starter. She could be the one coming up with the original idea, but most likely she’s the one recruiting other creatures. Being a Skipper’s daughter, she knows how get everyone to agree, and to get a job done. She has a great voice, she can pull out inspiring speeches that stir the hearts of every beast to action. In truth, Nikki could be a great public speaker.
Speed Warrior
-Nikki is fast. It is as simple as that. Nikki can talk fast, run fast, swim fast, and she uses that speed in her fighting style. Not that Nikki goes around fighting creatures, however. She fights when she deems it right. She was taught how to fight by her father who wanted to make sure that if something were to happen to Nikki, that she could take care of herself, and she most certainly can. With her swift movements, and quick attacks, Nikki is a fair threat in a fight.
Motherly Instincts
-Nikki is very protective of her child, especially after her mate died. She rarely ever lets Benji out of her sight. But if she does, she seems to know if he’s hurt or not and if he’s safe. This same motherly feeling attaches itself to those whom she cares about. She can tell by looking at someone if they are hurt or just need someone to talk to, because “Mother’s knows, and mother knows what’s best”.
Benji
Curiously Observant
-Benji is still young, but he notices things that other beasts don’t. Mainly because he is small and often not easily noticed, and that being so little he wonders about what’s going on and watches. He hears things, watches things, finds things that being as little as he is, probably isn’t supposed to find. Of course, he probably doesn’t understand anything that he notices, but he knows how to go and tell someone, but if they understand him, that’s another issue.
Warrior Blood
-Benji was born the son of warriors. His mother and his father were both fast and strong warriors and he inherited that warrior blood, although he doesn’t know it yet. It’s not that Benji can pull out a dagger and start fighting, but he has instincts, that are beginning to show them selves in his character. When Benji gets older, surely he will be a great fighter.
Weaknesses:
Nikki
Stubborn
-Nikki, although a wonderful warrior and dutiful daughter, she can be very very stubborn. Once her mind is set, there is almost nothing that can change it. Even when she is ordered, or physically can’t, Nikki finds a way do get it done.
Spoiler
-Nikki dearly loves Benji. Ever since Brant disappeared, she keeps Benji very close. She doesn’t want to lose him, for he is one of her last connections to her mate. Although, she would not admit it, she does spoil Benji a bit. She does her best to keep him happy and safe, and would even stick out her life for her little one, if only Benji would be safe and happy.
Benji
Little one
-Benji’s biggest weakness at this point is the fact that he is young. He’s small. He can’t lift, he can’t run well, he can’t swim in deep water well, he can’t fight anyone large, or much at all really. His speech is at best hard to understand, and he is still is learning to read and write. He’s very venerable.
Afraid of the Lonely Dark
-Benji, being as little as he is and all, is afraid of the dark, but only really while he is alone. If his mother or his grandfather, or someone he trusts is near, it’s not that bad. But if he’s alone and it’s really dark, Benji is absolutely terrified.
Alignment: Good : Good
Appearance:
Nikki
Nikki is the picture of a common pretty young otterwife. She’s of average height and equal proportions al the way around. She’s not the skinniest thing in the Holt, but nor is she the largest, leaning more towards the former more than the latter, being built for speed as he is. Her fur is a chestnut brown with a creamy white underbelly and it silky smooth. Her eyes are a soft light brown with long eye lashes that give her eyes the look that she is constantly half a sleep, but truthfully, she is wide awake. Her long lashes and her warm eyes giver face a soft, warm look.
Nikki is commonly found about the Holt in a plain copper dress. It has a v-neck cut and the sleeves only come to her elbows. The skirt of the dress flows out at mid-calf and is accompanied by a plain brown cloth sash about her waist. For fancier occasions, Nikki has a shimmering royal blue full-length-dress embroidered with navy blue thread to look like waves. The dress is sleeveless with thick straps, and a v-neck cut. With the dress she wears a navy blue shawl made of a light, breathable fabric. Her final outfit is not one so adorned. In fact, her father disapproves of it. The outfit consists of a large gray tunic that is a little big for Nikki and a pair of black platoons with a black cloth sash. Nikki only wears this outfit when fighting, because her father doesn’t like her wearing it around the Holt.
Nikki has a pair of fighting knives given to her by her father that she will sometimes carry on her if she is out of the Holt. They are both medium sized with a plain wooden handle, a silver pommel and a silver cross hilt. The blades themselves are evenly balanced with a fine bloodline made of a silver iron. The knives are small enough that Nikki can hide them in her sashes, but large enough that she could defend herself against a large blade well enough.
Nikki’s last possessions are very close to her heart and she is never seen with out them. They are a plain solid gold wedding band that she wears on the “ring finger” on her left paw, and a necklace that she wears around her neck. The necklace is very simple. It is a plain brown leather band from which a simple stone hangs from. The stone is a blue crystal in the shape of a tear. Brant gave the necklace to her, at their wedding, saying that the tear was the tear of his heart and he was giving it to Nikki to keep and protect.
Benji
Benji is a small little otter babe who looks like the spitting image of his father. He is still very small, no taller than his mother’s knee, but his paws are huge, foreshadowing a large growth spurt in his future. Although Benji still retains most of his baby fat, he’s losing it at a rather fast rate and his appetite grows with it. Benji’s velvety soft baby fur is slowly wearing away as well and is being replaced by a rougher, thicker coat of a dark mahogany with no second underbelly color, but mahogany all the way around. Benji also has the biggest dark blue eyes that sparkle with a mischievous childlike gleam. All around, Benji is the cutest little otterbabe you could find (or so his mother thinks ;) ).
Benji is most commonly found in a small navy blue jerkin with a little black cloth belt that he also uses sometimes as a head band. For special occasions, Nikki makes Benji wear a simple white jerkin, but she knows that it will most likely not stay white for long, knowing Benji’s love for getting dirty and wet.
Benji’s possessions are not uncommon to find on a little one. Benji constantly carries on him an old, light blue (now a bit darker with dirt and age) blanket that he is never seen without. Either he is caring it, or he wears it about his neck like a cape when he is pretending to be a brave warrior. The blanket was given to him by his father. His other possession he is rarely seen with out is his little wooden sword. It is no bigger than that of a medium sized knife. Benji likes to keep his sword in his belt and walk around proud and strong, like he used to see his father walk. Any other possession’s Benji has are small things, like sea shells, pretty rocks and things that he hides in small crevices in the Holt that nobody but him knows about.
Personality:
Nikki
Nikki a stubborn, a tad bit reckless, quick warrior daughter of the Skipper, but she is also a loving, sad, caring mother.
Growing up with out her mother and the only daughter the Skipper, Nikki grew up a bit of a tomboy. Not al of it was her fault; her father didn’t exactly know how to raise a young girl. He got help along the way from the other mothers in the Holt, but Nikki stubbornly stuck to her ways. Eventually she grew up into a proud young ottermaid, but she still retains her reckless stubbornness.
Nikki is a loving and caring mother. She loves little Benji and wants only the best for him and his safety. She hates to see her little one sad, sick or injured. One would be surprised to see Nikki’s change in character from her stubborn self and the caring mother she is with Benji. Although Nikki would be too proud to admit it, she does spoil Benji a bit, quite a bit, but she can be stern with him if she need be.
Even though Nikki puts on a happy face for those at the Holt and for her son, deep down inside, Nikki is very sad, angry and lonely. She deeply misses Brant. He had been gone far too long, and Nikki has the darkest feeling that he’s never coming back and that he is dead, although she would never tell that to Benji. What else would be keeping him from her from so long? She is sure that he has been killed by the vermin that took over the old Marshank ruins. Nikki gets very angry when she hears about them and how they tax the locals. She is ready for the vermin to be kicked out, they have gone too far.
Benji
Benji is a carefree little babe with big dreams that does yet understand much what goes on around him.
Benji is a little social butterfly and loves to play. Practically always as a smile upon his little face and loves to talk to people, even if they don’t understand a word of what he says. Benji loves to run and get into everything. He loves to collect like trinkets and play warrior with his little sword and blanket cape.
Benji’s blanket is very important to him. One can often tell his attitude by the way he uses his blanket. If he’s cuddling with it, he’s tired. If he’s got it over his head and he’s hiding, he’s scared. If he has it tied about his neck he’s playful.
Benji isn’t sad about his father, mainly because he doesn’t think he’s dead. Brant would go and come many times. Benji just thinks that his father is on a long trip and will eventually come home. Benji is oblivious in his little world. He doesn’t understand much of what goes on around him. He doesn’t understand how mean the vermin are. He doesn’t really understand death, or pain. When he finds out as he grows up, some of it might come as a shock, some of it might come slowly and he’ll learn to accept them. Until then, Benji lives in his own happy little world.
History:
Combined
Nikkole was born one fall foggy morn at Holt Seaslate on the Eastern Sea to the Skipper of the Holt and his wife. Nikkole’s mother was a gentle thing that unfortunately died soon after giving birth. Skipper was devastated, but couldn’t morn for long because he had a daughter to raise and take care of.
For being a single father in charge of an entire Holt, Skipper did the best he could to rear Nikki into a respectable young ottermaid. He got a lot of help from the other otters in the Holt, so Nikki was loved and pampered by all, until she became old enough to cause trouble.
Nikki (3-4ish) was the “leader” of the little ones in the Holt (a lot like the D.A.B.). She was the instigator, the planner, the stubborn little tomboy. However, in a close knit community like the Holt, everybody really knew who was responsible.
Nikkole (14) eventually grew up, still being the leader of her group of friend, but became a bit more mature. She began following orders a bit more and actually doing her chores. At this time, Skipper decided she was ready and began teaching her how to use her knives to protect herself, just incase. Nikki is sure that her father only taught it to her because he was nervous of the vermin that had just moved into the old ruins of Marshank, and the fact that Nikki was now starting to realize that she was falling in love.
Brant Rudderwake (19) first came to Holt Seaslate when Nikki was 17. He said that he had traveled from a Holt that was in the western sea! A place called Ruddering Isle. He said that he had journeyed from his home young because he was sick and tired of the same old same old, and he said that he had found what he was looking for at Holt Seaslate. Nikki loved to hear about Brant’s adventures, watch him practice his sword work with his old broadsword, and was falling deeply in love with the strong sea otter.
Taking up a job as a messenger, Brant took packages and letters from Holt Seaslate to the Strat and the Wildnes. Brant quickly became a well respected member of the Peninsula (Holt Seaslate, the Strat, the Wildnes, etc) and Skipper began to feel better about Nikki hanging around him so much.
Not to long after Brant established himself as a reliable messenger, Nikki (18) and himself began dating and falling deeply in love with each other.
When Nikkole was 21, and Brant (24) received permission from Skipper, Nikki and Brant got married at Holt Seaslate.
When Nikkole was 22, little Benji was born on a cold blustery night. Nikki and Brant (25) were overjoyed. The Holt celebrated and for a short while, there was peace.
But it didn’t stay that way.
Recently, Brant had been taking longer and longer to deliver his packages and messages. He said that the vermin were taxing the roads he traveled on and were getting more hostile by the day. So he had to take the long way to get places in order to avoid the toll roads. He also began taking his sword with him more regularly. Nikki was getting nervous, but Brant was sure that things would calm down soon and everything would be fine.
However, when Brant left one spring morn’ (Nikki 23 Benji 1ish) to deliver an important package, he didn’t arrive back home when he said he would. At first everyone thought that he was just late, but when days turned into weeks, small search parties were sent out where ever they could. The villagers at the Strat were questioned, the hedgehogs in the Wildnes, but no one had seen Brant, nor could tell of his whereabouts.
Nikki was devastated, she was sure he was dead. And she was sure that the vermin from the new Marshank had something to do with it. Nikki cried for a while, but bit back her tears and told everyone not to tell Benji. She didn’t want him to know that his father was gone, so young Benji stayed in obliviousness.
Nikkole promised herself, that one day she would find out what happened to Brant, and that she would somehow make those vermin at Marshank pay, even if she had to slowly take the place apart brick by brick…
Other: I don't have a plan for if Brant is really dead or not yet. If some one would like to rp him, just contact me and we can figure it out. :)
