The sun rose like a shining beacon over the distant hills. The light revealed many things, across the new dawn of the world. The land, once slumbering, was slowly awakening to see how things had fared since they had gone into slumber. Some things never sleep, living only for the dream of another place.
Thus do creatures quench their tiredness in other pursuits.
If Lentle had had to describe that morning, he would have said it was full of radiance and desire. He would not have said such things out loud of course, it was unbecoming of a beast of rank to talk such. Neither did the other beasts with him much care for natures beauty. They were on a mission, one of the deepest import. No mere mortal thing could distract them from their dread goal.
From mere recruit, to this moment, Lentle had been handed the keys rather quickly. Isolde had seen promise in him, and given him a tentative command, but still a respectable one. His mission? To scour the land with his new soldiers, looking for potential recruits to Lady Isolde's grand army. Also on the agenda, was the directive to find and ELIMINATE any pockets of potential resistance that might be gathered against the great army.
He stared out again, over this massive pit of rock and gravel pondering. There were so many places for dirty rebels to hide, and this was as good a site as any. Motioning to a subordinate, he drew him to his side. "Listen", He said to the rat,"Do you behold that vastyquarry? In there, lurks woodlanders, or so I have reason to believe."
The rat nodded, ready to recieve his orders. "Take half of my force and sweep from the opposite side of the quarry." The ermine commanded. "If you find your quarry in this quarry, take swift action. If any resist, kill them. If any offer to join us, let it be so. Lady Isolde will judge their worth."
"Fall for no false ploys. Heed your surroundings. Be true warriors."
"Go now, and show everybeast why I was put into command."
Whilst the rat scurried off to obey his orders, Lentle turned around to his remaining faction. "We will go down into this quarry together, lest we be ambushed. Marching starts now."
As he went down into the quarry, Lentle could not resist looking back into the woodlands. Many eyes were watching him, he knew.
Not just from the quarry either.
