Name: Badir Jall
Age: 30 seasons
Gender:Male
Species: Bat
Marital Status: Single
Position and Home: Born under the shadow of Bat Mountpit. He currently works for no beast.(Though that can change)
Strengths:The giant bat is able to utilize Echolocation to identify where his prey might be. Due to 'honour' he will never use his prodigious size to take advantage of any sentient beast. For this reason, his diet is mostly fish and insects.(of which he has to consume a huge number) Using his Echolocation, Badir can also identify possible threats that might lurk around him. His ability is not perfect though, for he has to wait for the reflected sound to return to him.
Weaknesses:Badir is a creature of the night, as most bats are. He disdains daylight, and will avoid going out of a sheltered area during that time. He disdains also fire, for it reminds him too much of daylight. He is nearly blind in daylight, and thus cannot fly safely. Even though he is of prodigous size, there are creatures who do not fear him. Badir respects this, and generally tries to keep his distance from those beasts. He knows that they might attempt to kill him if he were to shew himself vulnerable. If any damage happens to Badirs wings, his whole method of locomotion is compromised as well.
Alignment: He does not view things so petty as 'alignments to have hold over him.
Appearance:In general shape and proportions, Badir resembles an ordinary Bat. The length of his body is about seven foot from the neck to where his legs begin. His body is about two and a half feet wide. His legs are about three feet long to the tips of the claws. Similarily, Badirs head is two feet high and of a proportional amount wide. Everything about His facial features are in proportion to that of a regular bat. (Accounting for his size of course) Also, Badir has a 14 foot wingspan, each wing being about the size of his body. If Badir ever has to spend time on the ground, he has devoloped a method to traverse buildings and suchlike with the least hassle. After much practice, the Bat Lord has learned to walk on his wings when in confined quarters.(During said practice, Badirs wing-claws, touch the floor and actually propel his body foward.)
Personality:Badir is as senient as normal bats, if not more. His great size has not inhibited his powers of speech in any meaningfull way. If Badir recognizes that a beast does not post a threat, he will not harm that beast. The great bat knows of the need for allies in the world, so he entreats every-non threat with an offer of amicablity. Beasts respect him for this, vermin due to fear of him, goodbeasts know that he is merely an outsize bat. He will never attack a goodbeast unless so provoked, but when a 'vermin' dares pick a fight with him, it is only at the near-destruction of the other beast that he will show mercy.
History:The mountain chain known as Bat Mountpit was ruled for untold ages by the Bats. The Bat Lords were content to govern their peoples almost without interruption, for they were never bothered. That is until the day when strange beasts came to the Mountpit. The bats welcomed them, and showered them with the best hospitality they could muster. However, those strange visitors had no care for hospitality. Indeed, nothing the bats could have said could have moved them from their strange designs. So strange were their designs that in the ages to come, sane beasts would have said they were utterly crazy. Those beasts drove out the bats and killed the Bat Lord, driving the bats into the darkest crevices of the Mountpit. In the meantime, they lived like savages in the caves of their victims, crawling around on bare rock without so much as a Light to guide by. Their reputation was such that the caves were avoided at all times by all rational beasts. The bats, meanwhile, lived in the bare crevices that were too small for their tormentors to slither through. Here, they managed to eke out a meager existence by eating the scum of the caves. They were not however, unified under one ruler, and thus they were scattered into many refugee groups throughout the Mountpit. One by one, these remnant groups were hunted down and destroyed, until there remained only one family of Bats in what had once been a thriving colony. They had hitherto escaped detection because they resided in the furthest part of the caves, on the highest abodes that they could find. Even here though, the community was slowly dying.
Finally there was but two bats left, and both were dying of hunger. The mother said to her son before she died ," Here in Bat MountPit, Mountpit we are here the last of our breed. Go, for all beasts shall call you Badir Jall. Find someplace better than here, go and live. By our Blood sustain yourself, just this one time, eat of our flesh until you have strength sufficent to leave this place." Badir heeded his mothers instructions, and grew strong out of the flesh of the dead around him. By doing so, he was able to attain the girth of a full grown bat quicker than by normal processes. After he had finished with his gruesome deed, Badir went to the tip of the ledge where his family had been hiding. He proclaimed down to the wretched creatures below, "I shall take this Mountin back, for it is my solemn duty as new lord of these caves." Then all of the creatures on the Mountpit laughed at this Bat, who besides being just average size, had proclaimed such an audacious thing. "Since You have not heeded this warning," Proclaimed Badir again, "I will hunt you all down, and make you pay for the greviences you have caused during these long ages. This outburst prompted yet more laughter, but Badir had already gone, to strenghen his mind and body.
Badir waited in the shadows, hunting for the perfect opportunity to strike. Whenver a beast on the Cave floor died, Badir would wait until it had decomposed enough for the flesh to show through the skin. Then he would swoop down and take his fill of the flesh of his enemy. Seasons passed this way, and Badir strenghtened his body and and grew yet more. He daily would stretch out his wings to the fullest, in the hopes that by such methods, he could grow yet larger. Slowly but surely all of his efforts paid off. By his tenth season, he was now as big as the young ones of his enemies. He used his newfound height to its fullest effect and it was terrible to behold. Badir would now dangle a piece of meat down to the valley floor wherever he had seen their young ones consort. When the unwary young ones, took the bait, Badir would swoop down and carry one unfortunate to his lair. There, he would consume the beast and add his strength to his own.
Five seasons passed such, and Badir was now feared by all of the beasts in the Mountpit. The young now were kept far away from his abode, all the way to the center of the Mountpit. That was no longer a problem for Badir, as he had now grown enough to challenge the greatest of the visitors. Badir was now in his twentieth season, and no longer needed to resort to guerillia tatics. He fought his way out of his cave and managed to clear the beasts out of most of the lower reaches of Bat Mountpit. The problem still lay in their superior numbers, and if he had attempted to challenge them in the higher levels, it was likely he would have been overwhelmed. The beasts, still confident in the prowress, attempted to placate the giant bat with food offerings to try to lower his defenses. Badir accepted these gifts, though not out of any servitude to those beasts. He used this extra sustenance to grow stronger still. This time, however he did not let them know how far his girth had reached, for he stayed in the shadows whenever they brought meat.
He continued to stretch every day as he had done in previous seasons. He did this because some inner sense told him that his growth was not yet done. By his twenty-fifth season, though he felt that he had now reached the li mit of his growth. Now when the strange beasts came to his territory to present their weekly offering, Badir did not take it. Instead, he slew the creatures and flew upwards toward the higher reaches of the Mountpit. Many of the beasts were surprised to see how his girth had extended, and they were afraid. Badir did not heed them however, but sought only the exit. Those few that opposed him he slew, and it did not slow him down in the slightest. He reached the exit to the Mountpit and flew outside for the first time in his life.
Now behold, there was a great boulder over the exit to the Mountpit. Badir then said, "Since you have descrated the homes of my anscestors, I shall execute their wrath upon you. For you are not fit to live upon their bones." Badir flew up to this boulder and put the weight of his girth upon it. The boulder was moved by his bulk, and rolled down the Mountpit, coming to a stop at the mouth of the exit. Now the exit was full sealed by the massive boulder, stopping any beast from getting in or out. The screams from the Mountpit were muffled, and were never heard. Badir went away from that place, and lived in the shadow of the Mountpit for a season.
After a season had elasped, Badir rolled away the boulder from where it had been wedged. The stench of the rotting corpses of his anatagonists would take seasons to dissemble, but at least the Mountpit was now livable again. Badir did his best though, to remove their unworthy bodies and consume them. Badir waited for four full seasons then, for bats to return to the Mountpit. Slowly, the message of the beasts defeat spread throughout the land, and the Bats came. These bats were not descended from the old Bat Lords though, and resented Badirs attempts to govern them. They viewed Badir as an anomoly, a bat freak that was not to be tolerated. Badir however, sensed their discontent, and knew what they were saying between themselves. He left the Mountpit under cover of daylight, and flew towards Mossflower. His season of living outside the Mountpit had led him to favor the forest more than the caves. Never again would Badir be trapped by any beasts merely because there was not enough space
