"Keeta, please stop that!"
Earlier in the day, the Dibbuns of Redwall had been allowed to play in the shallow edge of the pond. Their harmless fun had become a bottom-sand fight, and now it was Tirael's responsibility to check if each one was still healthy and clean them. As if doing this to seventeen Dibbuns weren't enough, several struggled and fought to avoid bathing. The infirmary keeper was being soaked as one squirrelbabe, Keeta, thrashed in the bath. "You were playing in water, I don't understand why you hate this!" The little squirrel gave Tirael a condescending look of pity. "Isn't da same, Mista Tiral."
The otter was about to pursue the matter further when a knock came from the door. Irritated, he stood up and walked over. Throwing it open, he said, "Yes!?"

"Yes!?"
"Eep." Enon stepped back quickly as the door flew open. " 'ello Tir!" The borderland squirrel greeted the infirmary keeper.
"They taeld me ye were oop 'ere, but they didna mention t'bairns." Enon shot her paw out, catching a soaking wet Keeta by the back of the neck as she made a dash for freedom.
"Hey stoppit t'at, lemme go!" She squeaked. Enon lifted her under the arms and presented her to Tirael.
"I most certainly will not, you liddle bounder! 'ere ol' chap,ye'd better take 'er, wot wot!"

" 'ello Tir!"
Tirael instantly regretted snapping as he saw it was Enon. Giving an apologetic smile, he greeted her. "Hello Enon."
"They taeld me ye were oop 'ere, but they didna mention t'bairns."
Taking Keeta, the otter set her down by the tub. Looking her up and down quickly, he decided "Hmm. I suppose you're clean enough, you little terror." Grabbing a dry towel, he began drying her as he responded to Enon's comment. "Is that so? Must've slipped their minds." Finishing, he helped Keeta into a clean smock and handed her a candied chestnut. "Though you hardly deserve it." Smiling ruefully, he dusted off his paws and turned to Enon. Briefly explaining the situation to the warrior squirrel, he gave her a look of resignation. "They're not exactly makin' it easy." Cocking his head, he continued. "Though I suppose you didn't just come up here to listen to me complain about Dibbuns."

"Is that so? Must've slipped their minds."
Enon entered the infirmary and perched on a counter as Tirael dryed the dibbun off and dressed her. She filched a candied nut as he told his story, laughing as she imagined the unhappy looks of a dozen dibbuns lined up to take a bath.
"They're not exactly makin' it easy. Though I suppose you didn't just come up here to listen to me complain about Dibbuns."
"No, I came up to see if you could get this sliver out of me paw." She presented her right paw to the healer. The area looked red and angry. "I could no' get it out with me teeth, it's in too deeply."

"No, I came up to see if you could get this sliver out of me paw. I could no' get it out with me teeth, it's in too deeply."
Taking the paw, Tirael examined the area around the splinter. It was quite red, probably sensitive. Letting go, he began to heat a basin of rosewater. When it was warm, he set it down beside the squirrel. "Soak the paw in this basin; I'll need the skin good and soft." Preparing some sharp-looking tweezers, he asked "How did you get the splinter, anyway?"

"Soak the paw in this basin; I'll need the skin good and soft."
Enon placed the paw in the warm water gingerly, relaxing as the heat soothed it.
"How did you get the splinter, anyway?"
The black squirrel shrugged. "I was tree hopping and landed on a lightning struck beech branch. It was stupid, really."

Nodding, Tirael moved back over to Enon. Taking her paw again, he scrutinized it once again. "Well, accidents happen." Holding his tweezers at standby, he looked at her. "Ready?" Gripping her paw tight, he carefully forced the tool in, grabbed the sliver of beechwood, and slid it out. Dropping it in a wastebasket, he laid down the tweezers and prepared a small poultice for her paw. Dabbing it on the reddened area, he said "This should soothe it and help it close quickly." Tying off a small strip of bandage around the paw (no reason for her not to be able to use it, after all), he returned the tweezers to a drawer. Noticing his candied nut jar was open, he turned and asked "Who opened this? I left it closed..."

"Ready?"
Enon gritted her teeth as the splinter came out. Irrationally, she wanted to scratch and scratch at the small wound, until the ache and 'itch' went away.
"This should soothe it and help it close quickly."
Enon filched another nut as soon as his back was turned, munching it quickly.
"Who opened this? I left it closed..."
Oops... Guiltily, Enon tried to hide the nut behind her back, but she wasn't sure she was successful.

The infirmaray doors bust open with the flood of creatures coming through them. It seemed every creature in redwall wanted to see the new arrival. The stairs were packed, all the way, to the base, and there was no chance of securing a spot in the hallway outside.
There had been great consternation when he had been found. The beast had been laying at the threshold of the gate, apparently unconcious and alone. It was pondered what it could mean, the creature being seriously injured and showing up uninvited.
However, a deciosion was made, that no matter what sort of creature it be, he deserved medical attention. Unfortulantly, there had only been one bed availabe. The bed, that was at the very verge of the doorway to the hall as it happened.
This of course, led beasts of all descriptions to neglect their duties in order to gawk at this new vistor. A small hedgehog, not much older than a dibbun, peeked his head over at the bed's occupant. "Don't disturb the nice beast there Prickles!" exclaimed his mother, sweeping him up with one hand and dragging him out of the room.
The patient however, could not care less if he was gawked at. The injury he had sustained would keep him asleep for the majority of the day. Weghul moaned in agony, underneath that injury, lay hidden his deepest fears.

The trivial matter of a jar of candied chestnuts was forgotten as a stretcher bearing one very injured rat was carried in, followed by one very noisy crowd of onlookers. Tirael's irritation rose again, this time caused by the crowd. "Out! Out, all of you! This is nothing you need to see, you're just getting in the way!" Giving Enon a look that was half-pleading, half-exasperated, he said, "Enon, could you get them out of here please? I've got to deal with..." Looking at Weghul, who had already been transferred to a bed, he finished "...him." He had his work cut out for him; hurriedly, he began to clean a horrific and deep wound across his patient's torso. As he worked, he called to Enon, "Can you tell herbs apart? It'd be best if I had everything out that I need so I can bandage his wounds faster, or they'll be infected." Rat or not, he had a responsibility to his patient.

Weghul was slipping in and out of reality. He hardly even noticed the young otter attending to his wounds. His dreams were to fevered, too dark, for him to sit still even for the barest of moments. The horror he had seen could not wait.
He barely missed kicking out at the orderly attempting to hold him still. Little did he know that he was aggravatiing his wounds. The orderly tried again, this time being more succesfull ,seeing as he managed to prevent Weghul's upperbody from moving.
Weghul gasped in pain as the herbs were pressed to his sores. Slowly, he began to awaken, for brief instants being aware of his surroundings. "Don't let it git me!" A pause, in which he contorted more furiously. "Iffn' yous 'army agin de Beast, de wun de win" A silence around the who room followed..."De 'Harmy de cum agin de place, de walls break down, Break down to de dust!" (Done)

Weghul was struggling violently, but Tirael was equal to that when he had a mind to be. Jaw grimly set, he held the writhing rat as still as he could as he cleaned, treated, and bandaged his wounds. It seemed like nobody wanted his help today; was everybeast he dealt with going to fight back? He could feel the stares of the still large crowd behind him, and it only served to increase his annoyance. "I said get out!! Enon, please get them out of here!" He felt like he was going insane, but for the sake of his patient he had to keep his head. Treating a critically injured patient while feeling like exploding wasn't exactly a good idea.

Weghul convulsed even more violently in his bed. His caretaker had unexplicably left him and he was now more agitated than ever. The rat was now half-awake, and could realize his surroundings. He appeared to beat the mercy of some kind of healer.
Mayhap this healer was influential within the abbey. Anybeast now would benefit from hearing Weghul's message. The rat sat up violently on the bed, almost tearing his restraints in two. "Den go!" He shouted, "Der ...der isss"
"De 'army git up againts de walls!" De wen de manybeasts cum down on de wall, De walls Fall down! De's walls dey fall down! No place on de wuld is saf' from de!" He fell back onto the bed exhausted with his outburst. "Dey are coming" He gasped before falling asleep again. (done)
