The message was simple. It was a rescue mission; the orders were to get in, get the vermin out of the area, and march home with minor casualties. Lady Nora Lioness promoted Major Furgale to the highest position of Colonel, right paw of the mountain of Salamandastron; he was in charge of the mission. Colonel Furgale Feathercap took the 6th Regiment out to the northern mountains to protect a weakening hare force called Bucko's Bearers. Their goal was to make sure that no vermin ruined the old hare king's court, where Dotti made legends and the Long Patrol was birthed. When the gallant hares of the Long Patrol arrived, their supply stock was full, their morale was high, and they numbered over three hundred. Quality over quantity, sure, but the mountain was flourishing with valiant hares at the time.
The noble hares of the patrol and the hares from King Bucko's Court fought side-by-side, and when victory seemed to be drawing near, another onslaught of vermin appeared from the woods! The cunning vermin leader had tricked the hares into believing they were naught but a gang, but were truly a horde. Hares that yet remained took shelter within the Court, and healers from both sides took a quick stock of their wounded. The Long Patrol now numbered under two hundred, and Bucko's Bearers were diminishing. Together, Captain Chorkel Chiro of Bucko's Bearers and Colonel Feathercap of the Long Patrol divised a plan. During the night, when the hares were supposedly trapped in their home and the vermin outside camped down for the night, laying seige ... the hares struck.
Every single hare, numbering no more than three hundred and fifty, marched out to the woods surrounding the vermin. Slings shot smooth stones and pebbles at the enemy, battering the vermin in their sleep. Arrows fired from unforseen angles, flanking the horde and slaying many. Then, as they began to surround the vermin camps, Captain Chiro and Colonel Feathercap rose their blades into the air, yelling with all the thunder in their voices, "CHAAAAAAARGE! 'S death on the wind! Eulaliiiiaaaaaaa! Buckoooooooo!" The vermin, taken aback by the goodbeasts' agression, stood no chance as they were just awaking, rubbing their eyes. But they only awoke for seconds as the hares battered them with slings, arrows, and the infantry made quick work of them.
When the fight was over, a hundred vermin were fleeing for their lives, but only two hundred and eighty yet lived, and supplies were low. The Long Patrol knew that they had no chance of returning all the way back southwest to Salamandastron. Thus, they lived as protectors and foragers in the northern mountains, helping Bucko's Bearers however they could. With their joint efforts, they completely re-built the Court, returning it to its old splendor of how it looked back when the legendary King Bucko ruled with an iron paw. Finally, after they regained their strength, the hares marched back to the grand mountain. But a season had passed, a great war had struck Salamandastron; alas, the mountain had been taken vermin. Ashes were on the ground from after the vermin burned the surrendered hares, taking no prisoners. Even Lady Nora ... lay dead.
The 6th Regiment of the now diminished Long Patrol retreated to the northern mountains, explaining what had happen to Captain Chiro. Thus, since the hares had helped with the rebuilding of Fort Bucko, as it was now called, they struck a deal. Captain Chiro and Colonel Furgale would be joint-leaders of a northern resistance group entitled the Northern Desperados, accepting noble warriors every day of any species, not only hare. Their base of operations was Fort Bucko, where they allowed non-fighting families to live in peace and harmony. Soon the war battered north struck fear into vermin, and the now prosperous Desperados fought off vermin and ruled the mountains, dominating those with enough animosity to steal, kill, and destory. Eventually, however, Colonel Furgale and Captain Chorkel would lead the army back home to Salamandastron, where they would slay the vermin, taking not a single prisoner or letting a single weasel flee, and avenge their old friends! They were the Northern Desperados!
