((I'm just gonna make Melroch Winterpaw Axe's brother...))
Name: Melroch Winterpaw
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Species: Badger
Marital Status: Single; Not looking...yet.
Position and Home: Wanderer, Warrior; Anywhere and Everywhere, but soon to be Salamandastron
Strengths:
-- Great Fighter
-- Wise
-- Great Leader
-- Smart
-- Great Blacksmith/Weapons Forger
Weaknesses:
-- His bloodwrath is worse than normal
-- He breaks bowstrings a lot
-- The only thing he can't make is a bow
-- Rarely trusts people he just met
Alignment: Good
Appearance: Very unusual for a badger, Melroch is black-furred. In fact, his fur is slightly longer than that of a badger, and others have claimed that he is part wolverine because of the length and color of his fur, but he is not. There was a mutated gene that was passed down to him, making him black furred and giving him longer fur. Melroch's right paw is white, giving him the name "Winterpaw". He is considered a complete opposite to his brother, Axe, in appearance only, not personality. Melroch's claws are sharp whereas Axe's are blunt. Melroch's face is slim and muscular, whereas Axe's isn't. Melroch stands a head taller than the average badger, but is still somehow shorter than his brother.
Melroch's arms are very muscular from all the work he did (and still does) as a blacksmith, from all excercises he did (and still does) and for regular old fighting. His arms are filled with sinews that travel from his shoulder to his forearm, and look like roots when he flexes.
His legs are long and muscular. His abdomen is as hard as rock. Despite all this muscle, Melroch is a slim badger, but still dangerous and powerful, nonetheless.
Melroch carries an enormous broadsword, given to him by an otter (See History), that only a full grown badger, wolverine, possibly a wildcat, and anything larger than a badger can lift. The blade was dull and blunt, and the hilt was old and rusted. Melroch used blacksmith tools and pryed the blade from the hilt. He threw the hilt away and made a new one, and sharpened the blade part and made the blade as good as new. He attached the blade onto the new hilt, and the sword was good as new. The hilt has gold fibers laid into it, and the blade has a sort of gold/bronze tint to it. He keeps the sword in a makeshift sheath, slung across his back.
Melroch carries a long dagger that he keeps sheathed in a sheath on his arm, and he wears a thick belt which he keeps a hammer in it, and a pouch for any blacksmith tools.
Melroch wears a sleeve-less open black shirt with black chainmail underneath; all the protection he thinks he needs. He wears black pants, and when he works as a blacksmith, he wears thick gloves so he doesn't burn himself with the heated blade, or the fire he makes.
Personality: Melroch is very fair to all, even vermin... sometimes. What I mean is, he won't kill a vermin on sight. He'll let them explain everythying first like why they're here, etc... Then kill them. He has a partial spot for young ones, and takes pity on lame beasts, maimed beasts, or pathetic beasts, no matter the species, or if they were part of a family that hurt him pyhsically or mentally. He cares for all goodbeasts, especially friends. Melroch's attitude has gained him many friends, as well as enemies. He is a kind badger, and a loving one, as well. He can become very dangerous if arroused, and will most likely go into a bloodwrath.
History: Melroch is the brother of Axe, the Badger Lord. Only thing is, he doesn't know it. The two were seperated at birth; Axe was taken to his father's fort, and Melroch was left in the wild, based on his fur color. At birth, his father carried Melroch away and left him in the woods, feeling he was a disgrace to the family name. Melroch was left there curled up and crying pitifully. A day passed and a pair of rabbits found him lying in Mossflower. The female wanted to take the poor badger cub in, but the male would not allow it. He would not givehis reason to the female, and pushed her onward, making her leave the badger cub. another day passed, and Melroch's breathing slowed considerably. THe badger was dieing from no food or drink. Later on in that day, Melroch was found by otters. Another pair, just like the rabbits, only they were different. They both agreed to take in the badger cub and nurse him as one of their own.
The otters took the Melroch back to their home where they fed him, and gave him a warm cozy place to sleep. After a few weeks, the otters nursed Melroch back to health, not fully, but enough for him to live a healthy life. Melroch was able to crawl at such an early age, and he would spend his days crawling around the home, trying to learn how to walk.
Minutes turned to hours, hours turned to days, days turned to weeks, and weeks turned to months, which soon turned to seasons. Many seasons passed, and Melroch was 6. He could walk, talk a little bit, and he felt he didn't need the otters to look after him anymore. One night, while the otters were asleep, Melroch got up out of bed and crept out, taking provisions with him. Only a few hours out in the night, Melroch was spotted by corsairs. The young badger ran for his life, but was caught in a matter of minutes. The crew took Melroch back to their ship, laughing at the badger.
Melroch was presented to the captain, who told Melroch to be locked up in the brig.
Seasons passed, and Melroch was somehow still alive at the age of 14. The badger was sitting there one day when he thought up a plan of escape. Unfortunately, Melroch didn't have any weapons with him, and his claws were dull and blunt. Around the time food was to be served, Melroch played a trick on the beast that was supposed to give him food. The badger lay in his cell, acting like he was asleep. Minute passed and the crewbeast who was supposed to bring him food came.
Only one thing; The crewbeast didn't have food. "Psst. Wake up. You're getting out of here." He whispered.
Startled, the young badger arose from his "slumber" and walked near the cell door. He growled and lashed out at the crewbeast, but the crewmember just chuckled at Melroch. Lowering his hood, the crewbeast revealed himself to be an otter. The young badger was startled. Here he was, on a pirate ship, locked up, and an otter was standing in front of him?
"Sh, no time to explain." The otter whispered. Unlocking the door, the otter motioned Melroch to follow him. Melroch stood still, not going, feeling that there was a trick. The otter rolled his eyes, grabbed Melroch by the arm and tugged, trying to pull the badger along. Melroch was too wak to fight back, so he just went with the otter.
Traveling out on deck, Melroch was greeted by the sight of.... Darkness. The otter pushed Melroch in front of him and pushed him out towards town. A town? Of course, the corsairs were at port! Stocking up on provisions! That explained the lack of crewbeasts on the ship, though where were the guards?
"'Ey! You! Prisoner escape!" A ferret shouted. The otter acted fast, and ran the ferret through with his sword, but too late. The other guards were aroused. "Go, I will follow." THe otter said to Melroch.
Shaking his head, no, the badger jumped into the fray, roaring and biting, and bunching. The otter stood stock still, frozen by the madness of this badger. Shrugging, the otter shooed Melroch off the deck and into the wilderness, off the coast of the town.
The otter led Melroch through the wilderness as if he was familiar with these parts. Leading Melroch to a cave, the otter lit a fire, and lowered a stone door leading to the entrance of the cave. Melroch was bewildered. A stone door? Why would they need that? As if answering the question, there were several shouts of angry crewmembers outside the cave. The otter pushed whatever he could find next to the door for support, in case the angry beasts outside broke in.
Melroch sat staring at the fire, while the otter put up extra protection. Eventually, the otter sat down across from Melroch and offered him food, a bowl of soup, to be exact. Melroch took it and slurped it down faster than the otter could blink. Smirking, the otter kept handing Melroch more food, until the badger refused anymore.
"They call me Meko." The otter eventually said.
"I have no name." Melroch answered.
"I have a name for you." Meko replied. "Melroch Winterpaw."
Melroch accepted the name, but still asked his question, "Why do you call me Winterpaw?"
"'Cause your right paw is as white as winter." Melo replied quickly, as if waiting for a question.
None said anything after that and Melroch went to sleep, while Meko stood staring at the door.
The next morning, Meko awoke Melroch and asked him if he would like to temporarily live here. Melroch replied with a 'yes' and went back to sleep.
Seasons passed and Melroch was 19 years old. He awoke one morning, saw Meko eating and joined the otter. After finishing that meal, Melroch announced that he would be leaving. Meko nodded but walked to the back of the cave and came back several minutes, dragging a case with him. Pushing it in front of Melroch, Meko opened it to reveal an enormous blade, fit only for a badger. Melroch lifted it up, and underneath it lay a makeshift sheath, which he took, too. Melroch sheathed the blade, but it wouldn't go in fully. Bewildered, Melroch took the sheath and held it upside down and a puch came rolling out. Sheathing the sword, and making sure it went in properly this time, Melroch picked up the puch and opened it. Inside were blacksmith tools.
"My father's old tools." Meko said.
Nodding his thanks, Melroch slung the sword and sheath across his back and attached the puch of tools to his belt, hugged the otter, thanked him for everything, then set off.
Eventually, Melroch became interested in weaponry, and began to make weapons with the blacksmith tools. He fixed up the sword Meko gave him, and then he made a long dagger, made out of a wonderful steel. Sheathing it in a sheath on his arm, the badger packed everything up, then set out yet again.
Two more seasons passed, and Melroch was 21. One night at a camp, Melroch heard a noise. He stood up, grabbed his sword, and held it ready for anything. Then, a hare came out of a bush. "I am Jacksaw Swiftfire, I come from the mountain stronghold called salamandastron."
Nodding, Melroch let Jacksaw continue.
"You are the brother to Axe, the Badger Lord of the mountain, sirrah. You are the future badger Lord, should our current one fall."
Shaking his head, Melroch asked, "How do you know this? How do I know you are not lieing?"
"Melroch, I have no need to lie to you."
Melroch's eyes turned wide, "How do you know my name?"
Jacksaw chuckled, "Axe, your brother, foresaw the future. A badger named Melroch Winterpaw was supposed to take over the flippin' mountain, wot? Understand, sirah?"
Melroch nodded, "You would not lie to me about something that serious. Besides, I have never spoken of my name to anyone yet, the onyl way you would know my name is if what you said were true."
Jacksaw presented Melroch with a map of the way to Salamandastron, then set off back to the mountain.
Melroch sighed, packed his things, then set off again.
He has been wandering ever since.
